If I Were Joe Biden…

Here’s What I Would Say

Don’t Confuse Not Admitting a Mistake with Not Making One

“My fellow Americans and fellow global citizens, if I were scared, in doubt, uncertain about the future and my future, I would be very tempted to find and follow a leader who never makes mistakes.

Oh my, that would be so appealing especially since there is not a day that goes by where you are not trying to keep your fears and anxieties from crossing over into panic. When panic happens, you run or freeze or fight when you have a seen enemy vs. an unseen enemy like Covoid-19. When your enemy is unseen, fighting it becomes very difficult.

If such a leader or presidential candidate who never makes mistakes exists, I would vote for him or her.

But as we all know, there are no presidential candidates in America or leaders around the world, that don’t make mistake. That is because they’re all human.

So, what is the next best thing?

Here is where I differ from President Trump.

I am the ACL candidate and President Trump is the NRN candidate.

You’re probably scratching your head and asking yourself, ‘I knew Joe Biden isn’t a spring chicken, but has he totally lost it? What the heck does ACL and NRN mean?’

ACL stands for Admit a mistake, Correct a mistake and Learn from a mistake so that you don’t repeat it. As I have told you, I will always tell you the truth as I understand it. Sometimes as new data and science come in that truth changes and when that happens, we need to pivot and adjust. By the way, pivoting is not to be confused with being frozen like a deer in the headlights.

In fact if you’re a basketball fan and NBA historian, and chomping at the bit for games to resume, you may be familiar with the Euro step manuever made famous by San Antonio Spurs Superstar, Manu Ginobili. In that maneuver, as you are approaching the basket to make a layup and you’re being blocked by an opponent, when you’re in front of that person, you suddenly take a step to either the left or the right to finish your layup, using your other hand. In that way, you don’t completely lose your momentum. You just pivot exactly at the moment when you’re about to be blocked.

If you haven’t noticed that is thankfully what the world is doing now to fight Covid-19 and we’re all hoping and praying that it greatly accelerates our developing an effective vaccine and treatments.

Okay Joe, back to the point you were making.

And no, that tangent is not a sign of old age or cognitive impairment. For those of you who have known me for over fifty years in public service, I have always been a little tangential, but have always got back to the point I am making.

The point I am making is that I am the Admit, Correct, Learn from my mistake candidate, whereas President Trump is the NRN candidate.

NRN stands for Never admit a mistake, Rarely correct a mistake (unless cornered by insurmountable political pressure) and Never learn from a mistake.

Just because someone cannot admit making a mistake, doesn’t mean they haven’t made one. However, you cannot truly correct and learn from a mistake so as to not repeat it, if you don’t admit you’ve made one.

Now it’s up to you to choose who you want to be your next President, the Admit, Correct and Learn from your mistake candidate or the Never, Rarely, Never learn from your mistake candidate.”
